“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." // Matthew 6:33.
I am loving our new series at C3 Church Nairobi, "Seeking God." My question for today - are we consumer Christians seeking a Genie God, or consecrated Christians seeking a Great God? Our ability to get this scripture in Matthew happening in the right order will determine whether we worship a “Great God” or a self-made "Genie-God."
When we seek God first in our lives, we see Him as the “Great God” that He is. We worship Him and seek Him for who He is to us, not what He can do for us – and that is enough. We are aware of our weaknesses, and therefore overwhelmed by His goodness. We are grateful for every blessing He pours out, not entitled to them.
When “things” become our focus, we turn God into a self-made “Genie-God.” And aren’t there a lot of “things” that via for our attention? Seeking God becomes about what we can get. If we don't get what we want, we aren't happy. We lose sight of what we have actually been brought out of! How quickly we forget.
What are you seeking? Let’s seek His face, not His hand. #seekinggod
